The Zum is Unity’s contemporary design platform, our nod to the clean lines and strong geometric forms commonly found in publications like Dwell. Soaring vaulted ceilings supported by exposed timbers give a feeling of expansiveness to the open-plan kitchen, living and dining area. Large windows frame outside views and bring in natural daylight. Sunshades above the windows help to keep the home cool during summer.
Zums range in size from 752 to 1,855 square feet, with the smallest having one bedroom and the largest four. With its single-level living and clear separation of public and private space, the Zum is popular with folks who are downsizing but who also want space—although not too much space!—for guests. Because the bedrooms are located at either end of the main living area, they become private sanctuaries.
Exterior decks are popular add-ons to Zums, as are attached garages. We’ve also built carports for Zums, which of course we call “Zumports.”

Finished house costs for the Zum start at roughly $530,000. This estimate should be considered a preliminary guide for finished home cost that includes a slab foundation and standard finishes, prior to shipping and taxes.
For five years Unity’s show home was a Zum that we assembled in three different places at three different times: first in our production facility, then during 3 busy days at the 2015 Greenbuild Conference in Washington D.C., and finally at its current location, on a permanent foundation in Walpole, NH. We’re proud of the recognition that the show home has garnered: it achieved LEED Gold, and is the first certified Net Zero Ready home in New Hampshire. But visitors to our show home (now a private residence) were most impressed by the way the home looks, feels and “lives.”
